On the north coast of Crete, 20klm east of Heraklion , lays the municipality of Gouves with its beautiful beaches, fertile fields and traditional little villages. Its name derives from the word ‘Gouva' that translates to ‘land pit'. The earliest recorded reference of Gouves is found in the Venetian records of the Duce of Handax - naming of Heraklion during the Venetian occupation.
