Choosing the Right Moving Company

When moving to another country, it is only reasonable to contact a moving company to arrange the details of the transportation of your belongings. Before you sign up with a company, here are some tips on what you should pay attention to.

  • Market research

To begin with do not close a deal with the first moving company you contact with. Do some old-fashioned market research first. This means that before deciding which company to hire, you should have at least three comparable quotes at your disposal.

  • What is the best offer for you

The cheapest quote may not always be the best bargain for you. Check available insurance policies, hidden extra costs before making up your mind.

  • Make sure you get what you want

It is always a good idea to know what you want from your moving company. So if you want your moving company, for example, to pack and unpack your items, you should let them know. Don't take any service for granted, if not you will be left with extra charges.

  • Have it in writing

After choosing your mover to Crete, make sure you have in writing how much the company will charge you and all the provided services before closing the deal. It would be a good idea to let the company come to your house and evaluate your items before they give you their final offer so that no extra charges are applied at the last minute. If not be prepared for fine-print charges!

  • Extra charges

For example - flight charges, long carry charges, appliance charges, parking charges, storage charges, fuel charges, awkward objects, etc. If you have a piano, you should let them know right up front. Ask them if they have equipment to help with heavy and awkward items.

  • Insurance

Since you are a planning an overseas move, from your country to Crete, we strongly advise you to think about insurance for your possessions. Ask you moving company about the type of insurance included in your quote and/ or other available options. You should know that basic coverage depends on the country of origin and the individual company policies. If your moving company does not offer the right insurance for you, you could also work with a number of insurance providers to cover the move.

  • Forms of payment

After you have in writing the moving company's offer, you should also talk about the available methods of payment. We strongly advise you not to prepay the whole amount in advance. Agree on the amount of the deposit, whether deposits are refundable, and methods of payment(instalments, cash on delivery, etc)

Finally agree on the date of delivery. It will be a nightmare, if you are left in an empty house especially if your new home is not furbished.
